It is interesting from your comments so far on the blog that there is just so much information out there to support people, it can be a bit overwhelming. I am hoping by participating in this training that we identify the best places to go for specific issues, either for our own use or to recommend to others.
This week we are looking at how to report inappropriate content that can be viewed either on the internet, or received by email or by phone.
ACMA www.acma.gov.au is the Australian Communications Media Authority, a government organisation which is responsible for monitoring all types of communication including online, as well as telephone, radio and tv reception.
It is worth looking through their website, which is huge, to find out what types of information and support they provide.
For this week's task I would like you just to look at the Citizen ACMA section which is the best place to direct people if they need to make a complaint.
Click on this link http://www.acma.gov.au/Home/Citizen/Take%20action/Complaints and have a look at all the available fact sheets, contact numbers and advice it provides about a range of issues.
This is really a great resource to recommend to people if they do need to take things further if they have a communication or internet content related problem.
There are also other great links within this section including your rights and safeguards, all about numbers and stay safe online.
Please make a comment below about the usefulness of this site and I suggest you add it also to your favourites on your task bar.
I found the ACMA site easy to use, l accessed online forms to make complaints about online content and thought these were very easy and straight forward. Also the Stay Protected top link sends you to how to stay safe on your mobile, online, privacy and also My kids section which most parents would find useful, its has information on things like the parental lock, media & online content and how to keeps kids safe and monitor these activities. NS
ReplyDeleteAH- The ACMA site has so much information and it is fairly simple to use if you want to make a complaint about what you've seen online, on TV or if you need to stay safe while using your devices online. This site will be very useful to a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteSH The ACMA site was very informative not just for online complaints but also for TV broadcasting, internet gambling ,unwanted spam etc loads of information and easy to use content
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have the ACMA site within easy reach. I have always wanted to put a DO NOT CALL on my phone and it's good to know where to get the form and who to ring. Keeping kids safe on their phones and online is important and knowing how to put the parental lock on your TV is something that has been advertised extensively on the media. kt
ReplyDeleteThe ACMA site was very useful. Again easy to get around the site. It does cover a wide range of information and tells you fairly simply on how to lodge complaints.Parents may find this site useful. JD
ReplyDeleteACMA citizen seems very comprehensive. I didn't know what a VOIP number was, and some of the disadvantages but now I do. A very useful site. AB
ReplyDeleteThis site is amazing and I wish my favourites button was working as I can see a lot of content that could be used when advising members of the public, family & friends and even myself! There is an amazing amount of information on there, but it is well set out and relatively easy to find. Some interesting reading and who knew it would be so "easy" to report something offensive online or on TV etc. DG
ReplyDeleteThis is a huge website filled with really useful information! I found it quite easy to navigate and its good to see how easy it is to lodge a complaint. Great that it covers so many aspects of broadcasting and other aspects of internet usage. I found a useful page containing information about 000 phone calls which takes you through the procedure step by step which is great if you have never had to use this service before. I would be very happy to recommend this website to our patrons LW
ReplyDeleteSite is very comprehensive and there is so much to read/take in hope I can remember some of it! If the favourites button worked I may have more chance. LN
ReplyDeleteA comprehensive and user friendly website. Sometimes people can feel a bit daunted about making a complaint so its important the processes are easy to follow. I would recommend this website to people. I think parents would find the Kids and Media Section valuable. WW
