Thanks to everyone who has placed comments on the previous two posts. If you haven't done so please read through and complete the tasks when you have a moment.
This week's task will be pretty quick but it will highlight an excellent tool (which some of you discovered) last week. It is the www.communications.gov.au website.
I would like everyone to be familiar with this website as it will be an excellent reference for parents and children to use, particularly if they strike problems or wish to report something inappropriate.
Your first task this week
Please go to http://www.cybersafetyhelp.gov.au/
Click on each of the three buttons
Talk
Report and
Learn.
Please comment on the blog your impressions about the site and what you would find most useful.
I initially had asked our IT department permission to download the Cybersafety Help button onto all our PCs. After trialling it myself for a week (although it is extremely helpful) it will become annoying as it is quite large on the screen. It can be moved around to suit but I think the best thing to do will be to place the cybersafetyhelp web address into your favourites bar on your browser so it is always there to refer to.
So second task is to save www.cybersafetyhelp.gov.au into your internet favourites. Please use it and recommend it to people, particularly if they wish to report a problem or something inappropriate they have seen online.

I think this is a great website, It might encourage kids/adults that are to scared to talk to someone about their issue face to face, to speak out and get some help. It also makes you aware of your how to report inappropriate conduct on everyday sites that we all use as well as great tips on how to stay safe online! NS
ReplyDeleteLW - This is a very comprehensive and user friendly website. Contains great general guidelines about the do's and don't's of using the various internet sites. I found the information on the social networking websites particularly interesting as it describes a few that I hadn't heard of and also gives a guide to age suitability and safe usage. I think this should be a 'must have' for all parents who allow their children & teenagers to use the internet.
ReplyDeleteAH- This is site is very helpful for both adults and kids to use, its simple to find information you might need if you feel you have to report something that has happened online. There is a lot of information but the way the site is set up you are not overwhelmed by it and can find what you may be looking for quite easily.
ReplyDeleteDG - A great site! I felt the reporting link was excellent and gave great information on how to report each of the different sites which could have things to be reported. It is important to understand what are reportable offences as I have seen a few questionable blocks on Facebook recently and I felt this site fully explained this. I have "liked" their Facebook page and will be interested to see what future posts they come up with. A couple on there now are rather good and perhaps this is a way we could encourage both children and adults to be aware of the problems - new issues would come up in their feeds. A comprehensive site for all ages.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good site for adults and kids. For a teenager in trouble on social sites it has some really good advice and clear information as to how to do it. SH
ReplyDeleteNP - A great easy to use site. It's simple to navigate around and groups the resources in to three logical areas. Link has been saved to my favourites
ReplyDeleteThis is a clear and easy to use website about cybersafety and bullying, it seems to cover all areas of this problem. I like the cybersafety tips and found them useful. AB
ReplyDeleteKT - It's not always easy to talk to someone about bullying or issues, this is a great non invasive way to see what you can do and possible direction to take. Good for parents and teenagers.
ReplyDeleteDJS - great site - easy to navigate.
ReplyDelete1. is government promoting it - or relying on libraries, etc to get the word out?
2. I still think there are too many gov sites on aspects on cyber safety.
VG - Great site, great links, really easy to navigate. Love the reporting links, quite comprehensive. This site really needs to be heavily promoted by the government - newspapers, TV, etc. Get the message out there.
ReplyDeleteWO - Easy to use, I like the way you can just click on the Report cyberbullying - icon, I think on our homepage we should decide on one or 2 sites only- getting too confusing
ReplyDeleteAn excellent website for people of all ages. I found it easy to navigate and great cybersafety tips. Perhaps we could promote this website by putting a leaflet in books as people borrow or handing out leaflets when we have school holiday activities and youth nights. WW
